They hit the ground running from day one – both at first setting up shop in the Artwork department initially before finding their feet in other project work: Rae taking a particular interest in wayfinding, and Cerys more drawn to brand implementation work.
“We arrived at the same time on the same day; a little confused as to why there was someone else here to do the same job! But we became fast friends and have enjoyed every moment of our internship here at Endpoint,” said Cerys.
Both have worked on some of our high profile long-term accounts, including: Ballymore, Sainsbury’s, Royal Opera House, Intu and a 2022 World Cup Stadium. However, the duo have their personal highlights from their industrial design placement.
Cerys’ finest Endpoint hour came when a plaque commemorating the Nightingale Garden – a project that she had seen through from artwork to production – was unveiled at an event held at Guys & St Thomas’ Hospital; where the plaque was blessed by the Bishop of Southwark.
Rae successfully created a heritage sign for a hospitality client during her tenure, which has since been adopted by the chain as part of its sign family. She particularly enjoyed meeting with the client, understanding their needs, and problem-solving.
“We’ve been treated like valued employees from the moment we arrived. No tea making or menial jobs,” said Rae. “University is great for learning skills in isolation, but here you witness every step of the process, get real work experience and see the end result. You really feel like you’re making an impact.”
With just a year of university left each, the world of work will soon come calling for these two industrial design placement students. While firms plans have yet to be made, Cerys is keen to get started on her final project back at Brunel – and is keen to explore the role lighting plays in brand implementation; while Rae is already planning to write her dissertation on wayfinding.
We’ve been running our Student Placement Programme for a number of years now. Many who’ve joined us have gone on to work for other prominent design companies – and have even returned to work here. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed and benefited from having Cerys and Rae here, and we’re looking forward to our next two interns – both from Loughborough University – arriving later this month.
