From ideas to reality: Connie Yong's wayfinding journey

With an education background in product design and innovation, I started my career as a Product Designer at two technical and mechanical product companies. After a few years, I transitioned into the wayfinding and signage design field, where I worked as a Technical Designer for over eight years before Endpoint acquired the company.

Describe a typical day in your role at Endpoint. What aspects do you find most enjoyable?

A typical day as a Technical Designer at Endpoint Singapore is a blend of creativity and collaboration. I work closely with other designers to brainstorm wayfinding strategies and prepare signage technical drawings, including design specifications, fabrication techniques, and installation methods. One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is witnessing how a concept transforms from a mere idea on paper to a tangible reality.

What are some of the most memorable projects you've worked on at Endpoint, and how did you overcome any challenges?

At Endpoint, several projects stand out as particularly memorable, each with its own set of challenges and successes. One of my current projects – Four Seasons Hotel Hangzhou involved collaboration with top-tier architects, interior designers, and the Four Seasons brand. Working with such high-profile stakeholders added a layer of prestige and complexity to the project. We overcame various challenges through effective communication and collaboration with clients, stakeholders, and team members.

This ambitious development aimed to create a world-class convention and exhibition space in Mumbai. Personally, it was a fulfilling experience that allowed me to tackle complex design challenges, collaborate with top professionals, and contribute to significant and impactful development in the region.

How do you stay inspired and ensure your designs remain fresh and innovative?

Staying inspired and keeping designs fresh and innovative is a continuous journey. I stay updated with new design theories, methodologies, and technologies by attending online seminars and inviting local suppliers to share their new products and techniques with us in our studio.

What current trends are you observing in the wayfinding design industry?

One of the current trends in the wayfinding design industry that I observed is the use of digital wayfinding solutions, including interactive kiosks, mobile apps, and augmented reality (AR).

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work, I really enjoy travelling. Nothing excites me more than visiting new places and immersing myself in diverse environments.
